The Institute of Housing Management (IHM) is a professional association and incorporated educational body that has been dedicated to promoting and enhancing skills and knowledge of individuals in the private property management industry for over 35 years.

IHM is a symbol of integrity and professionalism in the private, public and municipal administrative property management sectors.

Earn your Property Management Certificate through our distance education program or by formal instruction at Humber College. Your educational certification combined with several years of practical experience in property management will lead you to accreditation status with IHM. Upon granting of accreditation you have earned the privilege of Accredited Member (A.I.H.M.) designation.

Our membership of several hundred professionals all prescribe to IHM's Code of Professionalism and Ethical Business Practices while they manage and administer rental properties of all types, sizes and numbers.

The strength of IHM is in our membership and networking. We share the challenge of succession planning in our industry, while some members will be retiring in the next few years, the certification and accreditation of those entering the property management profession is critical to our collective success. We work in an exciting field that offers rewards and challenges while managing property, people, relationships and resources.

In 2006 the IHM Board and Membership launched the “76/26 Succession Blueprint for IHM" initiative. Our membership and mandate were strengthened through the initiative, which referenced our roots of Incorporation (in 1976) and 30 years of business excellence. It also looked forward to 2026 when IHM will celebrate 50 years of quality education, training, certification and accreditation to IHM membership. In 2013, the IHM Board and Membership have updated the Succession Blueprint to include strategic planning efforts as an ongoing "IHM Strategic Blueprint: Charting our Continued Progress".

In keeping with the roots of the IHM Strategic Blueprint, and looking forward, IHM has developed partnerships with private and public sectors within Ontario municipalities and strengthened links to various sectors such as the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA), Federation of Rental-Housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO), Co-Operative Housing Federation (CHF), First Nations National Housing Managers Association (FNNHMA), and Housing Services Corporation (HSC).

IHM annual conferences and regional training and educational sessions for members, non-members, and property management organizations provide great opportunities to network with property management professionals. In addition, IHM is continuously reviewing marketing and membership initiatives, further partnerships in the industry, and has a program in place for periodic updates to our core education program.
